2010 Château Saint Jacques d'Albas "La Chapelle d'Albas" Minervois

SKU #1265336

Situated in to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne and in the shadow of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) lies Minervois. The village of Laure-Minervois is home to the winery Chateau Saint Jacques d'Albas a 90 hectare estate in the hills above the village. Some 26 hectares of the estate are planted to vines with the rest composed of forests and creeks acting as a natural barrier to their neighbors. At the winery, a small team led by owner Graham Nutter, craft superb reds, whites and rosés, all of which are farmed organically. The "La Chapelle" takes its name from the historic chapel on the property. The wine spends 18 months in barrel about 30% new. The rest of the time it is in bottle developing until the winery feels it is ready to be released. The "La Chapelle" has gorgeous black fruit tones, with tobacco, spicebox and leather notes. Possessing great complexity, it drinks very well now but could easily handle a few more years in the cellar.

Held back at the winery until it is ready to drink, this almost 100% Syrah is one of the best of the region. Denser and richer, this has an almost Hermitage quality with its toasted blackcurrant coulis, smoked meatiness, cigar box aromas and chocolaty finish. It is another long-on-the-palate wine that deserves a short term presence in any cellar.

If you love northern Rhone, but can't stand the quickly escalating prices, this Chateau Saint Jacques could be the wine for you. It is loaded with pepper and ripe, but not overripe, blue fruit. It also has good structure with equally vivacious acidity and fine grained tannin. Best of all, they have given this wine the extra time in bottle that it needs to show well today. This deserves your best garlic studded, rosy grilled leg of lamb!
