2015 Domaine Tour Boisée Minervois Rouge

SKU #1265330

Just to the north of Corbieres and to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne, lies Minervois. The appellation has equally diverse soils like Corbieres but limestone and clay are its primary ones. This is a warm region with a very Mediterranean climate. The hills are covered with the local scrub, known as garrigue, forests and vineyards. Our newest producer from the region is Domaine Tour Boisée. The domaine dates back to 1826 and is still run by its descendants. Now farming about 200 hectares of vines, the winery was recently certified organic. This "Rouge" is the workhorse wine. Equal parts Syrah and Grenache, the grapes are grown on limestone clay soils. Each varietal is destemmed, vinified separately and aged in vat for six months. Full of flavorful fruit, you'll be surprised with each sip that this is under $10. One of the best Rhone-blend (or any blend, for that matter) values in the shop, this 50/50 Grenache-Syrah is in limited supply, and ought to be consumed before it's gone. This is a velvety, medium-bodied, extremely versatile (and certified organic) wine with flavors of red and black currants, roasted herbs, dusty black pepper, and figs. A spicy backbone gives it a bit more depth for ideal pairing with Boeuf Bourguignon and other braised or slow-cooked red meats.

This is a delicious and aromatic lush red from Languedoc that is a perfect everyday dinner companion. Though the blend is equal parts Syrah and Grenache, the floral qualities and bright fruit of the Grenache seem to dominate, while the Syrah offers a spicy backbone. The region surrounding Domaine Tour Boisee is dominated by Mediterranean brush and herbs like thyme and rosemary, and the wine reflects that in its herbaceous aromatics. A beautiful wine, wonderful value, and a very chic label design to boot.

Another fantastic gem to add to our selection of everyday red wines from Rhone, and the perfect bottle to load up on for the holidays. Red fruit with plenty of spice and herbal notes combine with a touch of game mean that this bottle can pair with lots of different dishes that arrive with the cooler weather. Despite the fact that this is a workhorse wine that is meant to just be a table red, the wine is tasty enough that there is no shame in bringing a bottle over to a friend's house or serving it up at a dinner party. Plus it is under $10 with a 13.5% ABV so you can afford to serve up more than one.

This is the first time that we have directly imported this estate’s wine, and I must say, what took our buyer, Keith Mabry, so long in discovering this absolutely fabulous drinking Southwestern regional French Minervoios. Produced from Syrah (50%) and Grenache, this lovely Gem offers a distinctive nose of spicy, red fruit-driven components with that classic meaty, game-like undertone to go with its medium deep ruby robe, that carries over well to a balanced, integrated, flashy, bright palate impression. This Gem is meant for near-term enjoyment and would be a perfect match for such dishes as cassoulet, or any stew type creation. Rusty loves this Gem for drinking now and has asked me politely, this time, to bring home several cases. Excellent Value! A K&L WINE MERCHANTS’ DIRECT IMPORT.
Drink from 2016 to 2020
