2008 Palazzo Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Led in the nose by a solid measure of ripe-cherry fruit and filled out with a trim bit of sweet oak and lightly accented with herbs and a touch of dried brush, thisk lithe and supple young wine is long on precise Merlot character right up until the time that its Cabernet tannins kick in. It gets a bit ragged in the latter going but never so much so that aging will not fix, and, while not a wine we would pour tonight, we see very good things ahead some four to six years down the line.
Wine & Spirits
This wine's black olive skin tannins give a pleasingly roughed-up edge to its texture, the kind of grittiness that will capture the meaty fat and proteins in a steak. The fruit itself is rich and supple, smoky with the spice of alcohol. Serve it cellar temperature.
This Merlot-based blend also contains Cabernet Franc and a drop of Cabernet Sauvignon. It's user friendly, with soft, easy tannins framing ripe flavors of blackberry, raspberry, red licorice, mocha and spice. Ready to drink now.
