2013 Darioush Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
*Two Stars* Darioush Cabernets are among the richest, deepest, and tastiest that are produced in these parts, and that might be good enough on its own to make them likeable, but the reason why they have been so very popular is that they also have carried plenty of juicy, well-focused varietal fruit. And, this wine is not only clearly made in the winery style, but it is among their most impressive yet. Its generous aromas of black cherry, cola and graphite are lifted by lashings of creamy oak, and its full-bodied sense on the palate is supple to start with a bit of a fleshy feel and is nicely supported by evident yet polished tannins that will hold everything in good stead for years to come.
According to the winery: "Inspired by the power and grace exhibited in the great wines of Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon from Darioush’s cooler-climate, southern Napa Valley vineyards exhibit extraordinary depth, character and poise. Now in their second decade, these estate vineyards in the Mount Veeder, Napa Valley and Oak Knoll AVA’s have hit their stride, producing fruit with splendid concentration and power, compelling freshness and graceful complexity. The textbook 2013 vintage allowed Winemaker Steve Devitt to weave together a Cabernet Sauvignon that balances highly aromatic, well-delineated Mount Veeder fruit with saturated flavors, polish and poise lent by our valley floor estates. Generous and concentrated on the palate, this dynamic wine delivers its signature of alluring, savory blueberry and blackberry fruit, freshly ground espresso and aromas of anise, dried sage and cigar-box. A satisfyingly persistent finish of dark fruits unfolds to reveal notes of graphite, toasted hazelnut and seamless, finely-knit tannins."
