2015 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

SKU #1258899 95 points Decanter

Magnificent fruity and floral bouquet, redolent of peach, elderfolwer, lilies and citrus. On the mouth, it has a lovely creamy texture supported by a sharp, refreshing acidity and gorgeous ripe tropical fruits. Exquisite, a tremendous example of how Torrontés can really hit the heights.

90 points Vinous

Very pale, bright color. Aromas of peach, mirabelle, flowers and wild herbs. Juicy, savory, minty wine with lovely saline lift and intensity to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Brisk acidity draws out the tactile, bright finish. (ST) (3/2016)

90 points Wine & Spirits

This comes from the heights of Colomé, one of the highest points in the already very high region of Salta, in the north of Argentina. Dry and austere at first, with air it slowly reveals a core of ripe white fruit flavors and intense spice. Ready to drink with white sausages, this is one of the best values you can find in Torrontés. (6/2016)

Wine Enthusiast

Powdery white-fruit aromas blend with notes of vanilla, lees and briny saline water. This feels fresh and lightly citrusy. Powdery, yeasty melon and tropical fruit flavors finish with notes of lychee and citrus pith. (MS) (7/2016)

Wine Spectator

Offers minerally notes to the green apple and ripe lime flavors, with plenty of floral accents. White pepper details show on the well-structured finish. Drink now. (KM) (6/2016)

K&L Notes

From biodynamically farmed Torrontes, this wine is produced from some of the highest elevation vines in production anywhere in the world, at more than 7,000 feet above sea level! Very floral aromas with juicy yellow plums and white peaches lead to a lovely, slightly spicy and floral, yet refreshing palate. Another great effort from one of our favorite Argentinian wineries.

It's hard to believe that a benchmark version of this aromatic white grape variety, produced from organic grapes, at elevations of nearly 8,000 ft above sea level, can be so inexpensive. This wine is, as usual, incredibly expressive, with juicy yellow skinned fruit flavors mixed with ripe citrus, stone fruits and hints of rose water. At its core, the wine is also very mineral and fresh, qualities which emerge as the wine opens up in the glass and on your palate. This is fantastic value for money in Torrontes, Argentina's unique contribution to the world of aromatic white wine!

Other White Wines

- Argentina is regarded as one of the most dynamic wine-producing nations in the world, and possibly the most important wine-producing region in South America. Only four countries in the world produce more wine than Argentina. Considerable investments (much of which has come from famous French, Italian and California wine producers) have been made in new vineyards and winemaking technology in the past several years, which along with recent plantings of more premium varieties of grapes, has made Argentina much more competitive internationally. The Mendoza region is the most important region in Argentina's wine industry. And Malbec, among other Bordeaux varietals grown here, reigns supreme.
