2013 MicroBio "Kilómetro 0" Verdejo Viño de la Tierra de León (Previously $40)

SKU #1258729 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The super-orange wine 2013 Kilómetro 0 El Origen is a very unusual Verdejo fermented for four months (15 weeks to be precise) in clay amphorae with full clusters, with skins and stems. It's very high in volatility and had notes that made me think of botrytis, yet the wine is completely dry and the grapes had no botrytis whatsoever. This is the most extreme and radical of all the wines I tasted from Ismael Gozalo, with strong varnished aromas, notes of dried apricots and ginger intermixed with notions of lanolin and nail varnish remover. After the time in amphora it also matured in barrique for one year. The palate is very intense with flavors of quince and yellow plums, super-dry and with a fine tannic sensation. Some 560 bottles produced from two barriques. (LG) (3/2017)
