Too many exotic white wines are overpriced and lack acidity. The Petroni is the opposite--a great value that has plenty of refreshment to offer alongside big perfume, huge Viognier-like body and very nice length. This is a superstar--get it before it is gone!

Last year I had the privilege to visit this estate on the island of Corsica. They first came to my attention with their rosé (which is spectacular, by the way), but the white is a new superstar, as well. Made from 100% Vermentino, it is a beautiful wine with aromas of lemon rind, white flowers and a spicy complexity that seems to come out of nowhere. Gorgeous for warm weather drinking!

The largest appellation in the region is the Cotes de Provence that spans 49,600 acres of land in and around Marseilles. Thirteen different varietals are grown in this appellation with the most important grapes being Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, and Mouvedre. While much of the production is dry rose, there are many more serious wines being made from the area. Some of the most important smaller appellations within Provence include Bandol, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, and Coteaux Varois.
