I was really impressed by this CA Rhone styled Syrah blend. There is also some Greanache and Mataro (with the 2013 having a bit of Counoise as well) that makes up the blend. It is lush, fuller bodied...but not off balanced or over the top. The wood integration is quite seamless. The wine has energy, life, persistence and it was a great pleasure to drink. With an hour or less in the decanter, this bad boy should really open up for you to see all it's moods and life cycle. A must try for all those California Rhone blend fans out there!

Châteauneuf-du-Pape in California ? Really a fun wine that reminds me of a good neuf du pape. Dark fruit, spicy, full-bodied and great length of the finish.

I had the pleasure of tasting this wine today (7/7) and found it to be absolutely delicious and a far cry from overly extracted and too heavy domestic Rhone blends. A nose of red raspberries and bright blackberries, along with scents of graphite and white pepper. On the palate, dark plums, more dark raspberry fruit and a nice dash of herbs and smoke. If there ever was a true domestic "Rhone" wine, this one is it!

- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
