2015 Puygueraud, Côtes de Francs (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1255354 92-93 points James Suckling

So pretty and refined already with dark fruit and floral character. Full body, very polished tannins and a precise and clean finish. (4/2016)

90-93 points Wine Spectator

*Barrel Tasting* This has a strong tobacco leaf edge, along with a dark tea note and a twinge of alder, all mixing with the medium-weight core of black cherry fruit. Shows good range and length. (JM) (4/2016)

90 points Decanter

The leading player in the appellation. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with 5% Malbec. Lovely aromatic expression – blueberry and dark fruit notes. Sweet fruited palate with a touch of oak present. Fine, rounded tannins and a firm, chalky finish. Fine ageing potential. (4/2016)

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2015 Puygueraud was picked between September 28 and October 13, and is a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. It was a little reduced on the nose at first, though it cleared to reveal stony blackberry fruit, quite 'airy' and lifted. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, fresh and lively, a pleasant mineral core already tangible with a brisk, fresh, crisp finish. This is a little delight. (NM) (4/2016)

Jancis Robinson

*Good Value* 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec. Rich and round - very punchy. Lots of friendly attack. Maybe not for the long term but a sure-fire crowd pleaser. (4/2016)

The 2015 Puygueraud is dark, plummy and delicious. Cherry, plum, chocolate and sweet spice are front and center in this tasty Francs - Côtes de Bordeaux from Nicolas Thienpont. The richness and raciness of the vintage comes through nicely. Hints of violet, plum and cinnamon add perfume on the finish. (AG) (4/2016)

A fantastic value from Nicolas Thienpont. 60% Merlot. Very spicy and sexy on the palate. Right up there with their 2009.
Drink from 2018 to 2026

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.
