2015 Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina

SKU #1254704

Amats is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Beltza grapes, this rosé shows a lovely balance between fresh red berries, hints of watermelon, a very subtle, pleasant bitterness and fizzy quality. It's delicious with cured cheeses (something slightly smoky like Idiazabal works really well), charcuterie, anchovies or your favorite cured ham (prosciutto, serrano, or anything from Iowa's own La Quercia!)

Fun and bright and clean and fresh, dry with just a hint of spritz, even a great price .... what is not to like here! Fantastic and crowd pleasing.

The only problem with this wine is that it is too easy to drink. It is dry, light ,clean and crisp. There is a hint of co2 still in the bottle that gives this wine a little sparkle. The Amats Rose will go well alone or with light foods.

Txakoli rosé! Composed of 100% Hondarribi Beltza, this delicious, tangy, lighter bodied (just 10.5% ABV) rosé is fantastic. It is tailor made for food. The same sorts of foods (oysters, jamón, cured fish) that work with the regular txakoli are also wonderful with this rosé, though one of my favorite combinations is the famous "Gilda," an olive and anchovy skewer named for the character in a Rita Hayworth film. Amats rosé is one of our favorites and always limited, so case up while you can!

This crowd-pleaser is so easy to drink and should definitely be added to your stock of summer rosés. This rosé has hints of watermelon and strawberries and is not sweet, but carries a subtle, tart flavor. I love the slight fizzy quality. Perfect summer sipper at one heck of a price!
