2014 Vega Tolosa "11 Pinos" Bobal Manchuela

SKU #1252954

Bobal is a productive, peculiar variety, widely grown in the eastern portion of Castilla y La Mancha. While it can produce rough, uninspired wines when it's from younger vines on the flats, when it is planted at higher elevations, in good terroirs, and is well cared for, the resulting wine can be quite interesting. 11 Pinos represents the latter type of Bobal. Produced from certified organic, 80 year-old Bobal grown at around 750 meters of elevation, the wine is grippy and fresh. Pithy, tangy, mixed berry fruit flavors are generous, yet framed by some serious tannin and Mediterranean herb notes as well. This would be terrific with small game, an earthy paella or other type of rice dish, or any braised meat over polenta or pasta. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)
