2014 D. Ventura "Viña do Burato" Ribeira Sacra

SKU #1250916 91 points Vinous

Brilliant ruby-red. Musky, spice-accented red berries and floral oils on the perfumed nose. Vibrant, sharply focused flavors of bitter cherry and redcurrant deepen and stretch out with aeration. Reveals a sweeter, darker berry character on the persistent finish, which displays excellent delineation, supple tannins and a late jolt of candied violet. All stainless steel here. (JR) (1/2016)

A project of Ramon Losada, with some guidance early on from the great Gerardo Mendes (of Do Ferreiro fame), these MencĂa-based reds grown in the steeper Ribera Sacra D.O. are truly expressive, terroir-driven wines. Bright red fruits show a crisp minerality, as well as wonderful fruit purity. 2014 is the best vintage of this wine that I can recall; it's all crunchy red fruit - a super quaffable red and a real winner.
