2013 Quim Batlle "Foranell" Picapoll Alella (Previously $33)

Produced from Picapoll (aka Picpoul in southern France) in the D.O. of Alella (just north of Barcelona) this does not resemble the light, simple summer quaffers from across the Pyrhenees. With its fruit grown on a great granite vineyard, 7-10 days of skin maceration and two years ageing (one in tank, one in bottle) this is a more serious, textural wine to enjoy with friends and a well prepared meal. Fresh yellow fruited aromas lead to more of the same on the palate, which also shows ripe citrus and loads of persistence. Very cool stuff! (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)
