2011 Rochioli "West Block" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
CELLAR SELECTION This is a huge wine that's dense in flavors, rich in tannins, and with the soft lusciousness associated with this vineyard. Made from old vines, it's bold in cherry pie, red currants and mocha, yet dry and resilient on the finish. Delicious as it is now, it's a wine with a successful history for aging. Resist the temptation to drink it now and cellar. Best from 2017 and beyond.

The 2011 Pinot Noir West Block is pure structure. A powerful, tannic wine, the 2011 is going to require quite a bit of patience. It has impressive length and persistence but this is another wine that desperately needs time in bottle. Still, there is a lot to like about the wine's textural elegance and depth. The fruit is so rich the 80% French oak isn't even notable. (AG)

Full ruby. Explosively perfumed scents of blackberry and cherry-cola, complicated by Asian spices, vanilla, mocha and fresh rose. Intense red berry flavors show an elegant quality, with balancing minerality adding focus and lift. Fine-grained tannins come on late and are absorbed by the juicy red fruit. Finishes bright, subtly tannic and long, with resonating spice and floral elements. (JR)
The most complete and complex of the 2011 Rochiolis, this weaves together complex cherry, berry and plum notes, with spice and wilted rose accents. Ends with a gravelly edge, gaining depth and dimension on the finish. Drink now through 2022. (JL)
