2014 Cirillo "The Vincent" Old Vine Grenache
From 80-year-old vines this has a very attractive nose with plenty of wild raspberry perfume and a hint of some darker purple fruits, lightly herbal, really pure and assertive. The palate has a beautifully complete and silky texture with a long and sustained core of fine yet strong tannin; great depth and detail, finishes strong, fresh and on point. Drink now, will age for 10+ years.
Good times running through its veins. All licorice and leather with a sweeter, raspberried edge. Bight, crisp and flavoursome all at once. Feels exotic.
Marco Cirillo has some of the oldest Grenache vines on earth. "The Vincent" is selected from an 80 year old block that are actually masale selection cuttings taken from his 1860 block of vines...so at 80 years of age these are relatively youthful! A lovely pure, lifted wine that encapsulates all the qualities I admire about this enchanting variety; exotic red fruits, spices, bramble fruit, a scorched earth note...amazing energy and drive on the palate. Really a steal given the pedigree and vine age. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Aussie Wine buyer)
