2012 Cava Maciel "Via Lactea" Merlot Baja California

SKU #1245099

Jorge Maciel started his winery in 2000 as a hobby, but his passion lead him to start selling his wine in 2005. As most Baja producers, he sells most of his tiny production of wine with in Mexico, but allocates a small amount to send here to the US. The 'Via Lactea' is 100% Merlot with classic aromas of tomato leaf and herbs and flavors of cherry and spice with great acidity and medium body.

Deeply rich and juicy, this is a dead ringer for a top Napa merlot. Black cherry, blackberry and a touch of chocolate round out this supple smooth drinker from south of the border.

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.
