2012 Terry Hoage "The Pick" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1243807 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The ruby/semi-opaque-colored 2012 The Pick is a superb blend of 55% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre and 4% Cinsault. It has a big floral streak to go with impressive black and blue fruits, rose petal and sweet spice. It’s another full-bodied, forward, supple and sweetly fruited effort from this team that’s hard to resist. Drink it through 2022. I loved these latest releases from Terry Hoage and they epitomize the best of Paso Robles with their rich, textured and up-front style. (JD) (8/2014)

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
