2013 Epoch "Veracity-Paderewski Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1243343 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Another sensational red is the 2013 Veracity Proprietary Red, which is mostly Grenache blended with 34% Mourvedre and 17% Syrah. Aged in 32% new barrels, its ruby color is followed by classic notes of black raspberries, toasted spice, dried flowers and hints of pepper. Full-bodied, supple and polished, with no hard edges and a seamless texture, it will stand up to a great Chateauneuf du Pape and drink well through 2025. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini is making the most of her new winery on York Mountain, and her 2013s and 2014s are up with the creme de la creme of the vintage. In addition to the new releases, I was also able to do a small retrospective of her Tempranillo. (JD) (8/2016)

Brilliant violet. Smoke- and Indian-spice-accented black and blue fruits and violet on the powerfully scented nose. Sappy and tightly focused on entry and then fleshier and more open in the midpalate, offering lively blueberry and bitter cherry flavors and an exotic suggestion of candied flowers. In a smooth, seductive style, delivering excellent closing thrust; harmonious tannins add shape. (JR) (9/2016)

There are two levels of aroma to this blend of 49% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah: a bright floral touch and gravel-like minerality surround a deeper core of black currant and blueberry fruit. The palate is still quite tight, with elderberry, olallieberry and violet flavors, presented with a leathery texture. It shows lots of potential but still needs time. Drink 2018-2023. *Cellar Selection* (MK) (5/2017)

90 points Wine Spectator

Compact and powerful, with aromas of berry cobbler, burnt toast and licorice, featuring tightly wound flavors of blackberry, cracked pepper and mineral. The tannins are ripe but grip the finish. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Best from 2018 through 2026. (TF) (2/2016)

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
