Marietta "Old Vine Red-Lot #63" Red Blend

SKU #1239076 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Their great value pick, which has essentially underwritten the winery’s success for many years, is their non-vintage Old Vine, and in this case, the NV Old Vine Red Lot 63, the sixty-third rendition of this lovely blend. Dominated by Zinfandel, but also containing Syrah and Petite Sirah, it’s always meant as a boisterous, exuberant Mediterranean-style red, the likes of which are easy to find in parts of Spain, Southern Italy and Southern France. The oak is pushed back to a minimum, and the NV Lot 63 includes wine from four vintages: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, which makes these blends about two years of age. It’s an amazing value and has been in every rendition. Deep ruby in color, with notes of pepper, grilled or roasted herbs, steak tartare and briary, delicious black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, the wine is well-made, medium-bodied, supple and luscious. Marietta's Old Vine Red Lot 63 is a juicy, mouthfilling Zinfandel-based red to drink now and over the next few years. Although not especially complex, the Lot 63 is absolutely delicious for what it is. Best of all, pricing remains extremely budget-friendly. (AG) (2/2016)

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
