2005 Domenico Clerico "Percristina" Barolo
Wonderful aromas of dark fruits, flowers and licorice follow to a full body, with fine tannins and a clean finish. It's drinking beautifully now. So much nut and fruit flavors at the finish. Still very young.
Rich for the vintage, delivering cherry, raspberry, tobacco, tea and spice flavors, this is backed by stiff tannins, with ample fruit and a finish that is both sweet and tannic. Fresh and long. (BS)
The 2005 Barolo Percristina boasts a serious core of fruit, especially within the context of the year. Racy and ripe, the 2005 caresses the palate with expressive aromas and flavors. Since it was first bottled, the 2005 has become much more delicate, polished and refined from a textural standpoint, but it has also lost some of its pure excitement and freshness, especially in the fruit. 0 Aged for 36 months in barriques and 24 months in large casks, this opens with aromas of coconut, toasted oak and spicy blackberry. The palate offers sour cherry, mocha, tobacco and roasted coffee bean. The palate starts smooth and creamy but austere wood tannins impart a mouth-drying finish. (KO)
Montforte. Bright glowing ruby. Fragrant and elegantly aromatic. Roses and tea leaf and just a hint of dried red fruits. Still compact and dense in structure but with the perfume escaping all around the edges. Darker and more savoury on the palate. Long and complex and still so much more to come. 18/20 points. (JH)
