2014 Château de la Negly "La Falaise" Languedoc la Clape

SKU #1238477 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2014 Languedoc-La Clape la Falaise is blockbuster blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache; the Grenache was raised in oak tanks and the Syrah was raised in smaller barrels. This beauty offers fabulous notes of cassis, black raspberries, ground pepper and garrigue to go with a medium to full-bodied, seamless, downright sexy profile that just glides over the palate. It’s a big wine, no doubt, but it is always balanced and silky (JD) (4/2016)

This is a delicious and interesting wine.It is full bodied with a lot of juicy dark fruit flavors. There is also structure and balance that adds complexity. The wine is also very dry which is somewhat of a surprise with all of the expressive fruit flavors. The Negly La Falaise will go well with hearty foods such as red meats.

I mentioned in my write-up of the Porte du Ciel the consumer response to that wine when I opened it at one of our weekend tastings. For one quarter the price, though, this wine gives you a very close experience. Sure, not as deeply concentrated but not shy by any means, the "La Falaise" is still an opulent and satisfying red. Rich black cherry and blackberry flavors surround the smoky minerals and spice notes. Fleshy on the palate, long on finish, this reminds me of great Chateauneuf but with more refined character, and again, much cheaper...

Wow - what a serious wine from the Languedoc! The Chateau De La Negly "La Falaise" will be my go-to Rhone-style blend for this summer's barbecues. I love the smoky dark fruit from the Syrah and the dry, structured finish. This will be a great match for everything from ribs to lamb chops coming hot off the backyard grill!

Here's a standout from our Languedoc portfolio that mixes elegance and sheer pleasureability at a totally reasonable price point. The fruit is vibrant with rich, raspberry-like flavor and followed by a smooth and delicious mouthfeel. A total easy drinker, buy now before they're gone!
