2014 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Blanc

SKU #1235677 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Another rock solid vintage for this cuvee, the 2014 Cotes du Rhone Blanc (65% Viognier) offers terrific clarity and purity in its tangerine, citrus and orange blossom, in a clean, crisp, elegant package. It’s a great value to enjoy over the coming 2-3 years. One of the highlight tastings during my two weeks spent working in the northern Rhône was with Philippe and Marcel Guigal, who in this critic’s opinion, consistently fashion some of the greatest wines in the world. 90 points Vinous

Light, bright yellow. Dried pear, Meyer lemon, white flowers and beeswax on the seductively perfumed nose. Dry and precise, showing impressive mineral lift to the orchard and citrus fruit and honeysuckle flavors. A deeper peach note emerges as the wine opens up and carries through a very long, penetrating finish. This well-balanced, energetic wine punches well above its weight. (JR) (3/2016)

90 points Wine Enthusiast

Guigal is one of those firms that seems to handle whites, reds and rosés with equal aplomb. This white has a fair dose of Viognier, which gives it a floral, apricotty nose, a rich, creamy palate and a spicy, gingery finish. Drink now. (JC) (9/2016)

Wine Spectator

Bright, with piercing green almond and makrut lime notes cruising along, presenting a hint of citrus oil on the finish. Drink now. (JM) (11/2015)

The Guigal wines are truly an embarrassment of riches, and after reviewing the 2012 Côtes-du-Rhône red, I can't ignore his elegant companion, a beautiful and sumptuous melange of Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourbolenc, all contributing their expressive personalities to this artfully pristine blend. Inflected notes of white pear, wildflowers, orange zest, and ripe peach complemented by a cleansing acidity and prolonged finish, this white wine possesses more than enough elegance and sophistication to match its attractive price- almost a baby Chateauneuf-du-Pape! Enjoy with Moroccan cuisine or roast turkey and creamy polenta for a soulful, satisfying feast.

Gorgeous floral-laden nose of peach and white flowers. Waxy fruits, tropical flavors, nectarine and peach flavors flow over the palate with a rush of acidity and minerality. A delicious white wine that is easily a case-worthy purchase to enjoy over the warmer months ahead.

This is always a great seller and one of the best white wine values here at K&L! A beautiful expression of racy tones of white flowers and peach come out of the glass quite enticingly. Nice acidity and medium weight on the palate make this a perfect sipper (even before 5 o’clock). Stone fruit and dried flowers continue on the palate. The summer months are upon us and this is a perfect bottle to open on a hot(or warm, or cool, or cold) day. A delicious value under 15 bucks!

The Blanc is always my go-to white from the Rhone Valley. The mashup of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier speak volumes together with generous stone fruit flavors and light floral notes. Bourboulenc and Clairette lend nice tone and minerality. This is a white Rhone that punches at the level of many far more expensive wines from the region.

This stellar value white Rhône is clean, elegant and balanced. It’s showing great floral aromatics and bright fruit flavors of citrus, pear and honeysuckle. A touch of toast and wax give it great texture and weight to balance out its freshness. Great value, easy drinkin' white!

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. - Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
