Etim Ranci Montsant (500ml)

SKU #1230743 Jancis Robinson

If somebody told me I was tasting Oloroso sherry I would believe it. Old wood sensation, cloves, vanilla and nutmeg. It is quite interesting to see how a Montsant wine can be so close to a sherry. Very salty and deep. Some acetate notes (nail varnish). (FC) (2/2014)

K&L Notes

Imagine a wine that tasted like dry Oloroso Sherry, with all the requisite rancio flavors, suggestions of walnuts, toffee, dried citrus fruits. Then, picture it made from red wine grape varieties (Garnacha and Cariñena), allowed to age in large glass carboys subjected to the sun's natural heat, and then aged in solera. This is Vi Ranci! A local specialty of Montsant and Priorat, it is readily available at local wineries and co-ops in the region, and is a real piece of local wine culture and history. It's also delicious as an aperitive or after dinner drink, particularly if you are a fan of dry Sherry. Etim's vi ranci is a great value and has my highest recommendation.
