San Matias 3 Year Old Gran Reserva K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Extra Añejo Tequila (750ml)
One of Tequila's most highly regarded producers, Casa San Matias has been producing Tequila since 1886. Founder Don Delfino Gonzalez was an innovator in his time and built a reputation of high quality in this young industry. The family built a new distillery in 1950 in Ojo De Agua located in the highlands at more than 6000 ft above sea level. The special distillery in the heart of Los Altos is run by Ms. Carmen Villareal, Jalisco's only female distillery owner. Casa San Matias has always been a vocal proponent for quality, tradition and regulatory consistency across the industry, but they've also been a great innovator as well. In 1993 the house released the Gran Reserva, the FIRST Extra Anejo. Aged for a minimum of three years in french oak, it's continues to be one of the best values in Tequila at any price. We're very lucky to have been selected to participate in their limited barrel selection program. The quality is very consistent across the board and it took many months to find a barrel that truly stood above its peers. Stand above it does, ultra soft with buttery and creamy texture. This casks shows none of the bitter over oakiness that can occur with these Extra Anejos. The high quality of the wood, fruit, and distillation are to thank for that. The aromatics are baked fruit, subtle vanilla bean, and powerful spice. The rich texture isn't in the syrupy range and the finish is lifted and somehow refreshing. Extra anejo that doesn't feel like it was created in a lab.
