2013 Easton Amador County Zinfandel
*Editors' Choice* With opulent ripe fruit flavors and plenty of tannin and acidity to back them, this is a complete, balanced and appetizing wine. It smells like blackberry with smoky, meaty accents, tastes rich and full of berries, and feels firm and tangy on the palate.
A lively Zin, focused and sleek, with floral raspberry and fresh loam aromas. Vibrant flavors agilely balance bright acidity and ripe tannins, plus accents of white pepper and anise. Drink now through 2021.
*Good Value* Amador Zinfandels have typically been a gutsy and fairly rustic lot, but, when fit with ample fruit as is the case here, they can speak with real varietal authority. From its briary, solidly berry-like nose to its sturdy, tannin-laced flavors, this well-filled effort exhibits a good sense of richness and depth if not a great deal of refinement. A few years of aging should help smooth off its edges, but we like its message of unabashed fruit and would happily drink it right now with the likes of hearty pork stews.
