2014 M. Chapoutier "Les Granits" St-Joseph Rouge (Pre-Arrival)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
What will undoubtedly be a candidate for the Saint Joseph of the vintage, the 2014 Saint Joseph les Granits sports an inky purple color to go with a sensational perfume of graphite, crushed rocks, wood smoke, cassis and olive tapenade. Thick, unctuous, full-bodied and shockingly concentrated in the vintage, it should be reasonably approachable on release but evolve gracefully. (JD)
Bright violet. Explosive, mineral-tinged aromas of blackberry, incense, potpourri, olive and woodsmoke, lent vivacity by a peppery topnote. Shows excellent clarity and thrust on the palate, offering sweet, smoke-tinged black and blue flavors and a strong suggestion of candied violet. The juicy, expansive finish displays velvety tannins and a strong echo of candied flowers. (JR)
Warm, rich and inviting, with layers of fig, blackberry and black currant compote rolling through, backed by smoldering charcoal and warm paving stone hints. The long finish lets dark earth and cocoa notes fill in, maintaining cut and definition. (JM)
Blackish crimson. Sumptuous ripe nose and perhaps the merest hint of reduction on the nose. Real grip here. Food desperately needed!
