2014 Boekenhoutskloof "The Wolftrap" Red Western Cape

SKU #1220796

This rich South African red blend is the perfect party wine. Gaining depth and spice from Syrah, verve from Mourvèdre, and perfume from Viognier, it is easy to love--and easy to drink by the gallon! Fortunately, its price tag is friendly, too. From the winery: "Ripe blackberries and spicy pepper flavours from the Syrah driving this blend are met with a soft and supple palate. Good density with lingering flavours and a hint of oak. Soft, supple tannins makes for early, easy drinking."

A South African "Cotes-du-Rhone", and quite possible the best Cotes du Rhone, for the money, that we have in the store. Dark berries, red fruit, a touch of spice, smoke, soft tannins and hint of earth.

A wonderful dry medium bodied red blend from South Africa. It is round and smooth with red fruit flavors that are enhanced with a hint of spice and a subtle dusty smoky finish. Great alone, it will go well with hearty foods.

One of the most dependable, value reds we have in store. This wine really over delivers for less than $10. Sourced predominantly from vineyards in the Swartland this Rhone(ish) blend is the perfect mid-week wine (or guilt free second bottle).

Yes! It's back! This South African Rhone style blend is the perfect weeknight sipper. Ripe red berries, baking spice and a massively aromatic nose, there is a reason why people go crazy for this bottle. The sub $10 price point helps as well!

South Africa

- Now that it has adopted a multi-racial attitude, and now that the world has embraced its government and its exports, South Africa has become a major wine producer. Unfortunately, South Africa has had a difficult time joining the ranks of competitive winemaking countries. During the anti-apartheid sanctions in the 1980s, South African wine was dealt the huge blow when it was removed from the international market, and for political reasons it was quite difficult for wine producers to market wine to the black majority. Things are finally looking up for the wine industry here, and quality has never been higher. South Africa produces a grape cloned from Pinot Noir and Cinsault, called Pinotage, which is the country's unique varietal. Chenin Blanc (known as Steen) makes up one-third of its vines. Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Shiraz are becoming increasingly popular as are Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Click for a list of bestselling items from South Africa.
