SKU #1217965

Glendronach has steadily risen over the last decade to be renowned as one of the leaders for sherried single malt scotch. Single-handedly redefining the eastern highland category, Glendronach has stepped up into the upper echelons of Scotland's many distilleries. Often cited with names like Macallan, Glenfarclas, Aberlour and the other great sherried houses, the new(ish) ownership at the Valley of the Blackberries distillery has spared no expense. Filling and recasking into high quality sherry butts got them noticed and now the world is obsessed. With stocks struggling to keep up with demand, this product is proof that 'Dronach can produce magnificent high proof sherried juice without having to rely on an age statement. If you like sherry and high proof malt, there's not a better value in the store than the exceptional Batch #3 Cask Strength bottling. A blend of mature whiskies drawn from Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez sherry casks and bottled at 109.8 proof, this special bottling is sure to sell out quickly.

The stupendous batch #3 from Glendronach's well-regarded Small Batch Cask Strength line is here, and it's better than ever! The nose is a wild interplay between dark rancio, fudge and freshly squeezed blood oranges. Macerated dried stone fruits in honey, freshly roasted espresso beans, tiny hints of apple and pear, but absolutely no heat. The palate is lifted and bright. Frighteningly drinkable at nearly 110 proof, the sweetness is perfectly balanced with the powerful dark malty flavors. If this is why they have to take age statements off, I'm on board all the way!!!

All I could say when David OG and I tasted this whisky in the LA store was, "WOW!" This is not at all the rich and sherried whisky you expect from Glendronach. This is like cask strength Springbank; oily and supple with a bit of sherry richness, but much more of a malty profile than the standard core range of whiskies offers. This is fantastic. It's a throwback whisky that reminds me of my first days tasting Scotch in this business. Get some.

WOW! WOW! WOW! I know what you're thinking. Those two intense words... Cask Strength! Usually a good indicator that you're in for quite a strong experience that is anything but easy-to-drink. Here is a prime example that a whisky can be both strong AND smooth! After getting past the awe-inspiring effect of the deep golden color, I was greeted with lovely and mouth-coating layers of citrus, subtle mocha, and toasty oak char that lasts for A LONG TIME. An incredibly subtle influence from the sherry casks weave it all together for what I truly believe to be one of the best Highland malts I've had in the past year! This will go fast!
