The Champalou family farms 22 acres in Vouvray, making the Cuvée des Fondraux from 45-year-old Chenin vines grown in the area's prized clay, limestone and flint soils. Like all of their wines, it is distinctive, with incredible balance and energy... a true representation of the soil and a great value.

I’m always amazed at the wide spectrum of wines that come from Chenin Blanc grape of the Loire Valley. This Vouvray is of the more opulent side of that spectrum. Upon pouring you’re met with a lovely whiff of honey, flowers and citrus notes, and on the palate it’s elegantly off-dry with honeydew melon, citrus and lemongrass flavors supplemented by a rich oaky texture. It would pair particularly well with spicy Asian fare or rich creamy cheeses. ​

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically. Vouvray Chenins are traditionally medium-sweet; Savennières Chenins are typically bright and crisp; Coteaux du Layon Chenins like Bonezeaux and Quarts de Chaume are among the world's most sought-after sweet wines, and the sparkling Chenins of Saumur are perfumed and delicious. What all of these iterations of the grape have in common is their ability to age, a gift bestowed upon them because of the grape's naturally high-acidity.
