2014 Veronique Anne Perret Roussette de Savoie

SKU #1215216

Roussette de Savoie is not the easiest appellation to describe as it encompasses vast parts of the region of Savoie. The most important thing to remember is that these are usually some of the best sites and they are 100% Altesse (aka Roussette). Altesse is a grape that seems to have more in common with Chenin Blanc rather than the local Jacquere. It is loaded with vibrant citrus notes and Mandarin orange qualities. It is distinctly mineral driven as well. The Perret is largely from the Marestel region which is perhaps THE best growing region for Altesse. Vibrant, with great tone, this is perfect for exotic foods, spiced dishes and any kind of seafood imaginable.

This rich and full Savoie has some really great acidity with stone fruits, mandarin orange and peach notes. It is simply delicious and modern in style.

Roussette is the local name for Altesse, a favorite dry white grape that finds itself in my personal wine glass with astounding frequency. Wondrously balanced components married to a generous dose of vibrant acidity, this wine manages to contain both while revealing aromas of lemony fruit, paraffin, blanched almonds and sliced apples on the exotic palate. You could even age this for a few years, but then again…just crack a bottle open and enjoy today! Cool, crisp and altogether refreshing.

The hits continue chez Perret! This 100% Altesse shows the classic creamy, apricot fruited profile that makes it so charming and drinkable.

Altesse or "Roussette" as it's known locally reminds me of Chenin Blanc. It doesn't have quite the appley tones, substituting those for more tangerine and Mandarin orange notes, but it has more weight and texture like a Chenin. Great acidity, medium to full-body and those lovely citrus tones make this one of the most pleasing whites in the store.

In the French alps, just 30 miles from Geneva, Switzerland and made from 100% Altesse grapes, this dynamite Savoie is bursting with freshness. Lemon zest, aloe, and apple come through on the nose as a bursting reminder of summer. If "bursting with freshness" sounds like a code for searingly high acid, don't despair! This extremely balanced wine also showcases Altesse's richer, gentler side by displaying a beautiful texture and palate weight that reminds me of a good Vouvray. This wine is an absolute steal.
