2011 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Almost Bordelais in style and weight, this elegant Napa Cabernet blend comes from one of the state’s coolest ever vintages. No matter; the wine boasts supple cigar box spice, lively acidity, sweet plum and blueberry compote fruits with a floral violet flourish. The tannins are soft and savoury and there’s tremendous sense of vitality, youth, harmony and pleasure from start to the long imperious finish. For the record, the assemblage is 76% Cabernet, 14.5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and an all-important half per cent of Malbec, all of which was aged in US oak for two years.
Inviting aromas of plum, dried berry and cedary oak turn dry and savory. Very much in sync with wines of the vintage, making this a good, well made effort... (JL, Web-2015)
The 2011 release of this cult California Cab comes from a cooler, late-ripening vintage, the conditions of which have endowed the wine with the structure to age for the long haul. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Tasting notes from the winery: "Our 2011 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a harmonious and vibrant wine. This full-bodied, classic expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet in a cool vintage has a bright ruby-red color with purple undertones. The nose exudes aromas of black cherry, cedar and black olives. On the palate, its dried herb, cocoa and lavender flavors are framed by dusty tannins and a savory texture. The wine finishes with lively acidity and a lingering persistence. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2029."
