K&L Notes

Grapes for this perennial summertime value were sourced from Clarksburg, in California's Central Valley. Seriously quaffable but not to be underestimated—five of the past seven vintages won 90-point approval from Wine Advocate. The winery's tasting notes on the brand-new 2014: "The newest release of our intriguing blend delights the nose with a charming bouquet of enticing aromas of fresh Meyer lemon, fuzzy peach, ripe honeydew melon and yellow plum, mingled with touches of citrus blossom and white tea. The clean, vibrant palate enters with juicy pomelo, sweet lychee and honeyed tangerine fruits, balanced by vibrant acidity and hints of yellow apple and key lime pie that last through the crisp and refreshing finish."

Every year this wine goes super fast and this year has been no exception. This is one of the ultimate crowd-pleasing party white wines, both for its price and for the taste. Light, crisp notes of white peach, some lemon and hints of melon make this wine endlessly drinkable. Well balanced and super affordable, it is always one to stock up on.

Pine Ridge's Chenin Blanc Viognier is a perennial staff and customer favorite. It's crisp, bright and super-clean. Showing notes of white peach, melon, Meyer lemon and orange, this wine drinks well above its price point.

This wine always over-delivers for the price. And with the fall weather and Thanksgiving coming up this is the perfect white wine, with the mouth-feel just a bit richer than your other typical aperitif-type whites but still plenty of great acidity making it food-friendly.

This is a beautiful, crisp and clean blend that I love for all seasons. It’s bright and zippy with notes of green apple, white nectarine and loads of minerality. Yet the palate has enough texture and weight to enjoy with poultry dishes throughout the winter. It’s so versatile, you’ll need a few bottle around the house for dinners, guests or relaxing on the couch.

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically. Vouvray Chenins are traditionally medium-sweet; Savennières Chenins are typically bright and crisp; Coteaux du Layon Chenins like Bonezeaux and Quarts de Chaume are among the world's most sought-after sweet wines, and the sparkling Chenins of Saumur are perfumed and delicious. What all of these iterations of the grape have in common is their ability to age, a gift bestowed upon them because of the grape's naturally high-acidity.

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.
