Brilliant ruby-red. Spice-accented raspberry and candied flowers on the perfumed nose. Silky, spicy and aromatic on the palate, offering energetic but edge-free flavors of mineral-tinged red berries. Finishes silky, spicy and very long, with a repeating note of red fruit and silky shaping tannins. (JR)

In the portfolio of Descendientes de J. Palacios, Pétalos serves as the regional wine of Bierzo, a mencía with generous flavors of blackberry and pepper, and light mineral notes. This vintage is relatively delicate in texture, its linear structure highlighting the flavors of black and red fruits.
Ten months in French oak. Earthy on the nose -- freshly turned soil. Blackcurrant and cherry, and well integrated sweet spice. A stalwart of the appellation. (RH)
Produced from primarily Mencía, with a smattering of other local varieties thrown in, this is typically a very nicely made bottle of wine, produced from slate and clay vineyards at different elevations and orientations, in the Bierzo D.O. just west of León. Just as the change in scenery and topography indicates that one is at the border of the central meseta and the cooler northwestern portion of the country, Petalos typically reflects this as well, striking a fine balance between sturdy, medium weight fruit and more mineral, floral components. Enjoy with anything from a hearty lentil stew, to roasted chicken and potatoes or even a grilled steak served over peppery greens. This is delicious and quite food friendly.
