1995 Dom Pérignon "P2" Brut Rosé Champagne

SKU #1200788 95 points Vinous

The just-released 1995 Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is stunning. Young, delicate and vibrant in the glass, the 1995 has it all; expressive aromatics, crystalline fruit and fabulous overall balance. Cranberry, mint, hard candy, cinnamon and dried rose petals are laced into the super-expressive finish. The 1995 P2 is sweet and layered, but with lovely veins of chalky minerality that give the wine its sense of energy. A delicate, floral finish rounds things out nicely. (AG) (7/2015)

K&L Notes

This wine "Plenitude" range, which replaces the old "Oenotheque" releases in the Dom Perignon product line. These library releases have impeccable provenance, having been stored in the deep chalk cellars under Epernay where they were first made. The "P2" offerings are mature offerings that have been recently disgorged.

At our staff Champagne summit we were fortunate enough to taste the 1995 Dom Pérignon "P2" Brut Rosé Champagne which they have held back for 9 more years in the cellar than the current “P1” release of 2004. It still had the signature DP yeastiness, but after 21 years of ageing in perfect conditions, the savory, complex smokiness and delicate red fruit were in perfect harmony with the lees character. It was one of the most elegant, delicate and long finishing Champagnes of the whole day.

We tasted this gorgeous bottling of this wine on 24 August, 2015. The staff was unanimous in their high praise of this very special DP. It is late disgorged (2013) and has a nose of grilled and toasted nuts, clean clay, quince and raspberry with a hint of smoke. On the palate, cherries, fresh-baked bread flavors and nectarine. The finish is elegant and shows some of that DP richness but, like the P2 Brut, lingers and lingers. Simply great. This bottling will age well for many, many years to come, so collectors take note. The best Brut Rosé I have had in a number of years.
