2012 Continuum Oakville Bordeaux Blend
There's clarity and vivacity to this wine with dark fruits, dark chocolate and a mineral undertone. Full body, firm tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Powerful and long yet balanced and bright. Drink or hold.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The success of Continuum, a wine from Pritchard Hill made by Tim Mondavi and his sister Marcia, continues unabated. This is a beautiful vintage for Continuum, with a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of blueberries, violets, a touch of licorice, truffle and background oak. This full-bodied wine displays beautifully sweet and well-integrated tannin as well as loads of forest floor and spice box. A complex, Bordeaux-styled wine, it is approachable and dramatic, even ostentatious, as many 2012s tend to be, so there’s no harm in drinking it now or cellaring it for another 20+ years. (RP)
A juicy, flamboyant wine, the 2012 Continuum captures the personality of the year from the very first taste. Here the flavors are bold and racy to the core, with pungent dark red fruit and spice dominating. The new French oak (75%) is a bit pronounced today. Otherwise, this is a fine showing. The 2012 needs a bit more time to shed some baby fat, but it will offer its finest drinking earlier than most other vintages. (AG)
A Pauillac-like expression of fresh-cut flowers, gravelly tannins and rich, graphite-laced currant and dark berry flavors. The tannins flex their sinewy strength, leading to a gutsy melted black licorice accent on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. (JL)
From Tim and Marcia Mondavi's rocky, estate Pritchard Hill property comes this blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. A substantially built wine, from an extreme, high-elevation site, it is equally extreme, thickly dripping in dense, jammy tobacco and bittersweet chocolate, with dry, burly tannins and a generous build. Cellar through 2022. (VB)
