Brewery Ommegang "Hennepin" Farmhouse Saison, New York (750ml)

SKU #1200273 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Hennepin is a classic domestic saison, a benchmark for the style. Brewed with grains of paradise, ginger and sweet-orange peel, this is spicy and attractive right from the start, with additional aromas and flavors of pepper, pale malt, Anjou pear, underripe banana, tart citrus and fresh grass. Medium to light in body, this is remarkably balanced, with crisp, tingling carbonation that leads into the dry yet refreshing finish. A no-brainer for summer entertaining, just beware of the well-hidden alcohol. (6/2014)

Country:

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. Sub-Region:

New York

- Grape production is a significant part of this North Eastern state's agricultural economy. New York produces more wine than any other state in the US, with the exception of California. The wine market in New York City is also one of the world's most competitive, and this has inspired the growth of many small, private wineries throughout the state's producing regions (Finger Lakes, Lake Erie, and the Hudson River). Another interesting development is the introduction of an entirely new region along the eastern end of Long Island.
