2009 Williams Selyem "Drake Estate" Russian River Valley Chardonnay
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Green-hued yellow. Highly complex aromas of pear skin, smoky peat, iodine, flowers and lemon zest. Reminds me a bit of an Islay whisky. Densely packed, spicy and focused, with excellent energy to the candied citrus, mineral and spice flavors. This has x000D a powerful core of minerality and shows superb depth and back end energy. Finishes long and smoky, with strong x000D suggestions of minerals, violet and iodine. Wild stuff. (ST)
A big, rich, flashy Chardonnay that’s designed to impress, and does. Almost too much of a good thing, with massive lemondrop candy, pineapple, lime and kiwi fruit flavors, as well as firm minerality and lots of toasty oak. Drink now with opulent fare, such as shellfish.
Displays a mix of citrus, honeysuckle and hint of butterscotch on a medium body. Pure and lively, this is more engaging with every sip. (JL)
