2011 Kistler "Cuvée Natalie- Silver Belt" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
An eccentric, beguiling Pinot, the 2011 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Cuvée Natalie is long on personality. Heady, exotic aromatics meld into a core of beautifully layered fruit in an expressive yet weightless, ethereal Pinot that constantly changes in the glass. Game, savory herbs and tangerine peel all add nuance on the finish. The Cuvée Natalie is mostly Swan clone Pinot, with some Calera. Anticipated maturity 2014-2023.

Brilliant ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, incense and fresh rose, with a zesty mineral nuance adding lift. Juicy, sharply delineated red berry and floral pastille flavors are given spine by tangy acidity. Expands with air, leaving sexy floral pastille and spicecake notes behind on the strikingly long finish. This suave, energetic Pinot is already delicious. (JR)

The 2011 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Vineyard Cuvee Natalie includes more of the Joseph Swan clone than the Kistler Vineyard. It offers hints of strawberries, pomegranate, clove and cinnamon along with crisp, tart acidity, and less texture and depth than the Kistler. There has been a progressive trend by Kistler’s winemaking team and owners to harvest at slightly lower sugars, back off slightly on the percentage of new oak used, and bottle their wines earlier. All of this is designed to preserve as much fruit and freshness in the wines as possible.
An intense version, brimming with rich, vivid dark berry and peppery, spicy stem notes. Raw and chewy, with a seam of suppleness midpalate on. Should reward short-term cellaring. Drink now through 2022. 1,070 cases made.
