Gruet New Mexico Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine
Wine & Spirits
Impressively rich, more bold than finessed, this sparkling wine is a pretty straw-gold color and golden-fruited in its apple and pear flavor. Ice it down for tandoori chicken.
A still-young wine with new oak aromas of buttered toast and caramel. A bit sharp in the mouth, but with plenty of baked apple, cinnamon and vanilla flavor. Finishes with a dash of apple cider.
Floral aromas of apple and tropical fruit open to lively flavors of spiced hazelnut, cinnamon and lemon tart. (TF, Web-2015)
Gruet's silver label Blanc de Blancs is new and in limited production. It spent 3 1/2 years on the lees and has a brut-level dosage. For sparkling wine lovers the name Gruet is likely familiar, but this domaine's outpost near Truth or Consequence, New Mexico, which was first planted back in 1984, still doesn't get the attention it deserves. Gruet is producing tasty, approachable and ultra-affordable sparkling wines perfect for parties or to start off the evening. Truth is, you can't afford not to try this.
