Belle Meade Sour Mash Bourbon (750ml)

SKU #1132196

Belle Meade Sour Mash Bourbon is an LDI whiskey blended by Greenbrier Distillery in honor of ancestor Charles Nelson. It's much more mellow than most of the high-rye recipes out there on the market as its an attempt to capture the style of whiskey that made Nelson's Nashville, Tennessee operation so famous.

I love what the Nelson's are doing over at Greenbriar Distillery in Nashville. They've got their heads screwed on and they got in at a pretty good time so they're NDP bottlings are still relatively reasonable. The Nelson's got hold of some pretty serious stocks of bourbon from several distilleries, likely including MGPi, maybe Dickel and others. The whiskey is now really reaching maturity. The style easily matches great brands like Michter's and Jefferson's in terms of quality and you're not looking at a stupid mark up like so many craft distillers are asking on their purchased stocks. Anyway, the style here is super round and easy. An excellent range of 6-8 year old bourbons of various mashbills are small batched to create a very even and solid drink. I especially love that the Nelson's have used their ancestor's merchant bottler brand to sell their Merchant bottled bourbon. It all just works so perfectly and never feels gimmicky or out of line.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
