2006 Château des Tours Vacqueyras Réserve

SKU #1126228 92 points Vinous

Light, bright red. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of candied red berries, potpourri and Asian spices, along with a subtle smoky topnote. Juicy, focused and pure, offering vibrant raspberry and cherry flavors that show surprising depth. This lithe wine packs a serious punch and finishes with gentle tannins and lingering sweetness. 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Mature and slightly evolved, yet with plenty of life left, the 2006 Vacqueyras offers up a complex profile of sweet strawberries, garrigue, forest floor and truffle to go with a medium-bodied, elegant and seamless palate. Drinking beautifully, with a classy feel, it should continue to deliver the goods for another 4-5 years. Drink now-2018. (JD) (10/2013)

Wine Spectator

A traditional style, with dried blood orange, sandalwood, bitter cherry, clove and black tea flavors all framed by a shiso leaf note. Elegant, mature and ready to drink, but with the balance and finely beaded acidity to cellar. 100 cases imported. (JM, Web-2013)

With a lovely light red, almost brick color, you can see this wine has seriously developed. The nose reflects its light appearance with bright fruits like fresh cherry, candied orange peel and cranberry. The palate provides flavors of candied fruits with nice acidity for balance, fresh tobacco, cedar and a dry, almost amaro, finish. Open this bottle with pâté or gamey meats.

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
