2009 Inglenook "Rubicon" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
A classy effort that is rich and layered, restrained and structured, featuring fine tension between the dried currant, cedar, cigar box and anise flavors and the firm, fine-grained tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Drink now through 2023. (JL)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A big, imposing wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon is going to need some time to shed its tannin and baby fat. There is plenty of weight and gravitas in the glass. Smoke, tar, chocolate, licorice and dark red raspberries are all woven into the virile, authoritative finish. In 2009 the blend is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (AG)
Formerly Rubicon Estate: Francis Ford Coppola reacquired the rights to the "Inglenook" namesake in 2011 and has now restored the original name of this historic Napa Valley estate, founded in 1879, and is working to bring its reputation for high-quality Napa Valley wine out of retirement. To that end, Coppola brought in winemaker Philippe Bascaules, from Chateau Margaux. The Rubicon name remains the moniker of the signature estate wine.
