2003 DuMol Russian River Valley Syrah
Classic Syrah aromas of beef carpaccio, pepper, wild berry, blackberry and plum. This remarkable wine is rich and concentrated, with a tight focus and an intense yet supple and integrated finish, where the flavor themes keep building on each other. 866 cases made. (JL)
Leading with a rich mix of dark berries, spiced meats and lots of sweet, toasty and caramelly oak in the nose, this impressive Syrah follows up with powerful, astoundingly concentrated flavors that fully live up to its aromatic promises of richness and depth. It is fairly fleshy and supple to start but succumbs to the toughness and tannins of youth at the finish just now, and, while it may be so rich as to tempt early drinking, this dramatic effort deserves at least six to eight years of cellar time.

Bright, deep ruby-red. High-toned aromas of violet pastille, chocolate, eucalyptus, pepper and mint. Sweet, fresh and peppery in the mouth, with bright acids framing the dark raspberry and bitter chocolate flavors. This offers very good verve.
