Bright gold. A hugely aromatic bouquet evokes fresh melon, orange and pit fruits, with complicating notes of intense iodine and spices. Deeply pitched orchard fruit flavors show a strong smoky character, with juicy acidity providing shape. The iodine note repeats on the long, sappy, chewy finish, which leaves notes of pear skin and orange zest behind. I really like the interplay of richness and vibrancy here. This was made from all Wente clones. (ST)

Subtle smoke, orange marmalade, quince, white peach and brioche aromas emerge from the light gold-hued 2008 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard. This cuvee is made in a medium to full-bodied, slightly restrained, tighter style than the Dutton Ranch or the McCrea Vineyard, but it reveals considerable potential. (RP) 93+

K&L Notes
The iconic Kistler Vineyards produces some of the most sought-after and spectacular Chardonnays in California. This small family winery generally only sells their wines directly to a select membership on their mailing list. At times we are able to obtain well-stored wines from select private cellars, giving you the chance to try some of these wonderful wines. Winemaker notes on the Durrel vineyard: "Sourced since 1986. Located in the western region of Carneros, and hosting a soil series similar to the marine loams of Hyde vineyards, yet influenced by a stonier vein that transects the vineyard. Produces a wine with lovely base tones and a sublime rich nature that is consistently threaded with, and supported by, an energetic acid core."
