2005 Joanin Bécot, Côtes de Castillon

SKU #1069992 91 points Wine Enthusiast

A powerful example of modern Bordeaux with its blackberry-packed flavors, ripe tannins and dark, solid, concentrated fruit. Spice, wood aromas and pepper complete this dense wine. (RV) (6/2008)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Joanin-Bécot is one of the most reliable and consistently excellent wines from the Côtes de Castillon, and all the credit has to go to the inspired work of Juliette Bécot. The gorgeous 2005 is just now coming into its plateau of maturity, where it should easily stay for a decade or more. With super-ripe black cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant fruit interwoven with incense, licorice and a touches of espresso roast and spice, this full-bodied, opulent, lusciously constructed wine is a beauty of purity and symmetry as well as depth and texture. Drink it over the next decade or more. It is a sleeper of the vintage. (RP) (6/2015)

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Good red-ruby. Jammy blueberry, espresso, licorice, mocha, menthol and nutty oak on the nose. Fat, rich, deep and sweet but with nicely integrated acidity giving the wine shape and firmness. Unusually powerful for this Cotes de Castillon wine, which really coats the palate on the aftertaste. Has a firm acid/tannin spine for slow evolution in bottle. (ST) (6/2008)
