2007 Casa Lapostolle "Clos Apalta" Colchagua Valley

SKU #1054192 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Editor's Choice: Outstanding as always. Right from the first take it has an elevated sense of being. The nose is rich, warm and deeply fruited, with balsam wood and lemony notes. It's deep as a coal mine on the palate, with herbal, tobacco and leather accents sprucing up serious berry fruit flavors. Minty and sly on the finish, and lovely overall. Drink now through 2016. Michel Rolland fashions this blend from a south-facing amphitheater, where the old vines are predominantly Carmenere. The vineyard produces a rich red, pushed to the edge of monumental excess in the warm 2007 vintage. The wine brings sweet things to mind--figs, Morello cherry marmalade, mocha and chocolate00while the texture is extravagent and dense. It's impressive, not only in stature, but also in the grandeur of its flavors. (2/2011)

Country:

Chile

- Located on the western coast of South America and bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes to the East, the Chilean wine-growing climate is similar to that of California's Napa Valley and Bordeaux. The Chilean wine industry is known for being consistently free of phylloxera, but political and economic unrest has brought its own source of disorder. The recent establishment of a free market has resuscitated the wine industry, and significant investments have been made, switching the economic focus from domestic production to exports. Chile produces roughly a quarter of the wine Argentina produces, and is known for single-varietal exports, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. It's a popular region in the U.S. known for inexpensive and tasty wine. Click for a list of bestselling items from Chile.
