2006 Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Phelps’ basic Cabernet bottling is dry and elegant and classically balanced. It displays rich flavors of blackberries, black currants and cedar, with notes of violets and herbs. Fancy and impressive now ...
Wine & Spirits
Generous black currant and blackberry flavors fill this juicy Cabernet. It's lush and easy to enjoy on release, the gentle tannins ready to meld with rare prime rib.
*One star* Insistent and well-defined Cabernet fruit is met with a fair bit of briary spice and a full complement of very rich oak from this deeply filled wine's moderately intense nose straight through to its gruff, decidedly tannic finish. Its frontal appeals noted, this is very much one for putting away, and, while it should begin to relax in four or five years, it will grow for a decade.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa has gotten slightly better over the past year. It exhibits plenty of black currant fruit notes intertwined with hints of tobacco leaf, licorice, and forest floor as well as deep, medium to full-bodied flavors, ripe tannins, and a long finish. (RP)
Tight and compact, with concentrated herb, dried currant, sage and savory, earthy notes. Rich and balanced, with good depth and structure.
