2004 Williams Selyem "Rochioli Riverblock" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Wine & Spirits
From a patch of stony soil on the bank of the river, this block within Rochioli's vineyard produced a wine with beautiful fruit over a firm, stony structure in '04. It has delicate floral scents of beeswax, violets and deeper fruit intensities, from wild strawberry to black raspberry. Its fruit sweetness is mouthwatering, lapping over the acidity in gentle waves that last. It's clean and tightly formed, with an emphasis on finesse. Built for the cellar.
Allen Meadows - Burghound
A highly seductive mix of upper and lower register red Pinot fruit aromas that offer real style and a certain grace lead to well concentrated and solidly constructured flavors that also possess admirable underlying material but not the finesse and elegance of the Flax. Still, this is worth a look too.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Dark red with ruby highlights. Complex and enticing on the nose, offering red cherry, rose petal, cola and loam-a real essence of Russian River Valley pinot. Suave and silky-smooth in the mouth, with pretty red fruit, floral and earth flavors. Less complex than the Flax but this boasts a wonderfully accessible texture. Finishes with sweet tannins and noteworthy persistence. Perfect for drinking over the next four or five years.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Crushed rocks, cranberry, pomegranate, and tart cherry notes intermixed with some hints of gravel and terroir characterize the 2004 Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock. This wine is backward but reveals good depth and plenty of acidity. (RP)
Well-balanced, firm and structured, with a tight mix of earthy cherry, wild berry and red plum fruit. Finishes with a clean, crisp finish and a return to the earthy cherry flavors. (Web-2007)
