2006 Tablas Creek "Panoplie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (1.5L)

SKU #1051483

95 points Robert Parker: "A blockbuster offering is the 2006 Panoplie (68% Mourvedre, 27% Grenache, and 5% Syrah). Aged in large wood foudres and the smaller demi-muids, this beauty reveals notes of soy, roasted herbs, gamy animal, and copious quantities of black and blue fruits. With superb texture, full-bodied richness, and a long finish, it should drink nicely for 10-15 years." (08/09) 94 points Stephen Tanzer: "Bright ruby color. Deeper dark fruits on the nose than the "basic" Esprit. Also more brooding and slow-to-unfold, eventually giving up black cherry, tobacco, licorice and candied plum. A big, rich mouthful of wine, displaying a full range of black and blue fruits and a velvety texture. The finish is utterly seamless, and endless. Today I prefer the elegance of the previous wine but this is built for the long haul." (Nov/Dec '08)

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. - With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year. Paso Robles

- Located about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this inland AVA enjoys a sunny and hot growing period while its seaside neighbors hang in the fog. Zinfandel is the traditional red grape of choice, though cabernet, chardonnay, and Rhône varietals are gaining favor. Most are made in a fruit-forward, early drinking style.
