2007 Turley "Old Vines" Califronia Zinfandel
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Good bright red-ruby color. Lively aromas of black fruits, licorice and bitter chocolate. Creamy and pliant in the middle palate, with nicely concentrated sweet berry flavors. Not yet especially complex but shows a bit more clarity and concentration than the young-vines version. Finishes with very good definition and lift.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
It is a softer, slightly fuller offering than the Juvenile, with blacker fruits, and notes of damp earth, plums, and pepper.
Dense and rather overripe, showing aromas of dried cherry and cracked pepper, with briary blueberry, sage and licorice flavors that finish with rustic tannins. Drink now through 2013
Turley Wine Cellars makes thirty-four wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations.
